IDPE Trustee

The IDPE board of trustees is looking for two senior schools’ development practitioners to join them leading the strategic direction of IDPE over the next six years.

The role of the Board of Trustees

Trustees work as part of the IDPE Board to act in the best interests of IDPE by: informing the charity’s strategic direction; scrutinising the financial management of the organisation, ensuring the sound governance of the charity and scrutinising the operational decisions taken by the Senior Management Team.

Duties of a trustee board member

The trustee board must act as a group and not as individuals. Their duties are to:

  • Contribute actively to the board by giving firm strategic direction to IDPE, setting business plans, defining goals and evaluating performance against agreed targets
  • Safeguard the values and reputation of IDPE
  • Ensure that IDPE complies with its governing document (it’s Articles of Association*), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • Ensure that IDPE pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
  • Ensure that IDPE applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects
  • Ensure the financial stability of IDPE
  • Champion schools’ development

General criteria

  • A commitment to the core purpose and values of IDPE
  • A willingness to meet the minimum time requirement
  • Integrity, strategic vision and willingness to speak their mind
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • An ability to communicate effectively
  • An ability to make sound, independent judgements
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. Further information can be downloaded via the Charity Commission
  • An understanding of the schools’ development sector
  • Currently working at director level or equivalent within schools’ development
  • Working within an IDPE member school
  • Responsible for development strategy within a school
  • A minimum of two years’ experience of working at director level. Ideally this would be two years within the schools’ sector but development experience in other sectors will be considered

Although not essential, the board would warmly welcome applicants from the North of England to ensure full member representation on the board.
